DISTRIBUTION OF PAPERS PER REFERENCE (CITATIONS PER REFERENCE)

This page shows plots of the papers per reference distribution from 27 collections of papers covering various subjects. This is the distribution of the number of citations received by the references in each paper collection. On the x axis of each plot, x is the number of citations recieved. On the y axis, y is the percentages of references that received x citations. The papers were collected from ISI's Web of Science product in the period from January 2002 to December 2003 by using queries and seed references. The red lines are theoretical Yule distributions: rho*Beta(x,rho+1). Rho is equal to 1/(1-alpha), where alpha is the probability that a new citation will be to a previously uncited reference. Alpha for each collection is estimated by dividing the number of references by the number of citations.
